The History of Aerakis Familiy Olive Oil Mill since 1967.
The history of Aerakis Olive Oil Mill is rooted back to 1967. It all started with my father, who began his career as an auto mechanic and iron fabricator. In 1967, he started working with a company that installed olive oil mills throughout Crete, sparking his interest in the olive oil industry. By 1978, he had ventured into the business himself, running an oil mill in the village of Roussa Eklisia, later relocating to Maronia.
In 1985, he built his own mill at its current location, initially using traditional stone milling methods. Over time, as the family business grew, we modernized the mill in 2002, upgrading to state-of-the-art equipment from ALPHA LAVAL. Despite the modernization, we’ve always maintained the craftsmanship that defines Aerakis Olive Oil Mill.
Today, the business remains very much a family affair. Mara Aerakis and her brother Giannis Aerakis, now run the mill, bringing new ideas while keeping the same values at the heart of everything we do. Maria oversees the day-to-day operations, while N focuses on improving production techniques. Together, they’re ensuring the Aerakis family’s legacy continues, blending tradition with innovation and preparing the business for the future.
